Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about our business continuity deployments.

What are the best backup solutions with elastic storage scalability?
For elastic scalability Layots pairs on-premise backup appliances with object storage tiers in AWS S3, Azure Blob or Google Cloud Storage, so retention grows without hardware refresh. We deploy Veeam, Commvault and Rubrik depending on your virtualisation stack, with immutable backup copies to defeat ransomware encryption of the backup set itself.
What is the difference between RTO and RPO, and what should ours be?
RTO is how long you can be down; RPO is how much data you can afford to lose. Most enterprise line-of-business systems target an RTO of under four hours and an RPO of under fifteen minutes, while transactional or financial systems often require near-zero RPO through synchronous replication. Layots sets both per workload tier rather than applying one target across the estate.
How often should disaster recovery be tested?
Layots recommends a full failover test twice a year and a partial tabletop or component-level test each quarter. Untested DR is the single most common cause of failed recovery, so our managed continuity service schedules and runs these tests, then issues a report with actual measured RTO against the contracted target.
What is the difference between Business Continuity (BC) and Disaster Recovery (DR)?
Business Continuity is the overarching strategy to keep your business running during a disruption. Disaster Recovery is a subset of BC focused specifically on the technical process of restoring IT systems, data, and infrastructure after a catastrophic event.
What are RTO and RPO and why are they critical?
RTO (Recovery Time Objective) is the maximum acceptable time your systems can be down. RPO (Recovery Point Objective) is the maximum amount of data loss your business can tolerate (e.g., losing 4 hours of data). Layots helps you define and achieve these targets through automated failover and frequent backups.
Does Layots Technologies provide automated failover solutions?
Yes. We implement automated DR orchestration that detects primary site failure and automatically redirects traffic and spins up virtual machines in a secondary data center or cloud region, minimizing manual intervention and downtime.
How do you ensure backups are protected from ransomware?
We use 'immutable' backup technology and air-gapped storage. This means once data is backed up, it cannot be modified or deleted for a set period, even if an attacker gains administrative access to your primary network, ensuring you always have a clean copy to restore from.
